Brian Lancaster:
Being brought up in the 1930's in the heavily industrialised southern part of Lancashire with its extensive railway network, the sights, sounds and smell of LMS and LNWR steam locomotives have left a lasting impression on Brian Lancaster.
Brian has always drawn and painted - it ran in the family - and at the age of 15 he successfully gained a scholarship to Bolton College of Art, followed by a further three years at Southport Art College, studying graphic design, illustration etc. During this time he painted mainly in watercolours and exhibited regularly at the Southport Annual Exhibitions. It has always been the atmospheric qualities of railways that have gripped Brian, and hopefully this is reflected in his work.
Other subjects of great interest are the industrial scene, landscapes and architectural themes. He exhibited widely, particularly in the London open exhibitions. He was an associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Sadly Brian Lancaster passed away in 2005.
